Job Description
Our client, a nationally recognized digital forensics and expert witness consulting firm, is seeking a Senior Digital Forensics Consultant to lead complex forensic investigations supporting high-profile civil and criminal matters. This individual will independently manage engagements from evidence collection through forensic analysis, timeline reconstruction, reporting, and expert witness preparation while working directly with attorneys and clients. Responsibilities include conducting computer, mobile, cloud, and SaaS forensic collections, authoring defensible forensic reports and declarations, advising counsel on ESI strategy, maintaining chain of custody, supporting depositions and trial preparation, mentoring junior team members, and contributing to expert testimony work. The ideal candidate brings deep hands-on forensic experience, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to explain technical findings to non-technical audiences. This is a full-time position open to candidates nationwide, with preference given to those located in California (particularly the Bay Area) or major East Coast metropolitan areas.
Key Responsibilities- Independently plan and perform forensic collections from computers, mobile devices, servers, cloud environments, and SaaS platforms
- Conduct detailed forensic examinations, including timeline reconstruction, deleted data recovery, user activity analysis, USB investigations, and data exfiltration reviews
- Prepare clear, well-supported forensic reports, declarations, and case documentation
- Support depositions and trial preparation, and provide testimony when qualified
- Maintain chain of custody and oversee evidence handling and quality control
- Advise attorneys on forensic strategy, ESI scope, and technical findings
- Mentor junior forensic professionals and review investigative work
Qualifications- Some years of hands-on digital forensics experience in consulting, litigation support, or a similar environment
- Ability to independently manage forensic matters and communicate directly with legal clients
- Strong written communication skills with experience preparing reports or legal documentation
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to attorneys, judges, and juries
- Experience with EnCase, Magnet AXIOM, Cellebrite, Intella, and cloud or mobile forensic tools
- Working knowledge of chain of custody, electronic discovery, and litigation workflows
- Industry certifications such as EnCE, CFCE, CCE, GCFA, or GCFE are preferred
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive, problem-solving approach
Preferred Experience- Prior expert testimony or court qualification
- Experience with Microsoft 365, Entra, Google Workspace, AWS, or other cloud environments
- macOS forensic analysis and mobile application artifact investigations
- Python, PowerShell, or SQL scripting experience
- Trade secret, employee departure, or insider risk investigations
